the early years
To maximise the development and learning outcomes for our students, we need to pay particular attention to the early years of schooling from Kindergarten to Year 2. These years are the platform from which every child can become a successful student.

Over the next several years, the Western Australian Curriculum will gradually be implemented in Western Australian schools from Pre-primary onwards. Together with the national Early Years Learning Framework, it is timely to raise our expectation of what students can achieve in their first years at school.

continuity in learning programs
From the beginning of Kindergarten, our teachers plan engaging learning programs that challenge children and provide opportunities to learn by building on their existing knowledge, skills and interests.
Our Kindergarten and Pre-primary teachers don’t operate in isolation from the rest of the school.. All staff work as a team and our early years’ educators understand their critical role in preparing your children for the demands of future years.

In developing our curriculum for Kindergarten and Pre-primary, we understand that:
- Children learn through play and exploration, as well as explicit teaching
- Children develop and learn at different rates and in different ways
- Learning is continuous and all areas of development are interrelated
- Early experience affects learning and attitudes to learning in later life.
The Early Years Learning Framework (Kindergarten) and the Australian Curriculum (Pre-primary), encourages teachers to build on the knowledge, skills and understanding that children bring to school from their homes, communities and care before school.
It means that programs in the first years of school emphasise broad and foundational learning and the curriculum becomes more specialised as children progress through schooling.
