Art is an essential, exciting component of a student’s education. Our specialist program enables students to explore and express their creativity through a diverse range of inspirational projects.
Students design and create artworks using media, techniques and processes from a range of areas that may include:
- Mixed Media
Students have their artwork displayed regularly and show group pieces in community events including an Art Auction. Under the direction of our Art specialist teacher, students have also created pieces for fundraising activities. For the last three years, Freshwater Bay students have won categories in the Shaun Tan Awards.
Our music specialist coordinates an enjoyable program in which appreciation of all music genres is encouraged. Particular emphasis is placed on singing and students can participate in the school choir. The school also offers access to the School of Instrumental Music (SIMS). Visiting music teachers provide tuition to selected students from Years to 3-7 in cello, violin and trombone. All lessons are during the school day, on site.
Additionally, the school offers access to private musical tuition through On The Run Music. Students can receive on site instruction in drums, voice and guitar. See the Extra Curricular page for further information or visit the

Students from Years 1 to 6 receive weekly instruction in French language.
The ability to understand and speak French is only one benefit of French-second language education. Research shows that students who are educated in a second language reap additional benefits from the experience. Their English language skills are strengthened and they show increased mental flexibility and creative thinking. In addition, they are able to benefit from increased communication and cultural opportunities.
All students are involved in physical education programs which cover a range of activities involving fine and gross motor skills, aerobic fitness, movement and dance.
Children participate in tailored programs coordinated by Kidz’n Sport and Edu-Dance. Students from year 3 to 6take part in the Winter Sports Competition with others local schools and compete in a variety of sports including netball and hockey. Students from years 1 to 6 also receive swimming instruction,
The school hosts an annual athletic carnival and swimming carnival for all children and takes part in inter-school competitions in both Athletics and Swimming.
